If help is needed on that front, just let me know. As I mentioned before, I did spot some auto stuff other projects did to deal with this type/issue.
I did some quick checking. With the current Ubuntu LTS (Hardy) the included version of Boost is 1.34. That's a release that's still supported for over a year on the desktop, so we probably need to keep working with that at a minimum.
Or maybe we're lucky and the tr1 stuff is just in a different package.
