GitHub only allows a rather small subset of file types as attachments. Important for Inkscape: SVG files are *not* allowed, as well as HTML, CSS and JavaScript files, videos and archives except ZIP.

This is the main reason for keeping issue tracking on launchpad for the time being in my opinion, just move the code and see how it works. Not being able to upload SVG files so they can be used for debugging is a big problem...everyone would have to zip the images and then upload, an annoying extra step.
FWIW, I already sent a feature request to the GitHub people some time ago to add support for those file types and also asked why the allowed types are restricted to this specific subset. The response from one of their team members was:
I'll pass it along to the team. We don't discuss product decisions or timelines publicly like that, so I can't share more information about why this particular subset was chosen. I do hope it can be expanded in the future, though.
