I honestly don't see a point to keeping the parts of the gradient dialog which exist today. Setting stop color, for example, can be handled from the "fill and stroke" dialog when a stop is selected.
The new portion of the dialog you introduce at the top might be useful as a dialog/panel in its own right, however. Would you be interested in implementing just that part?
