
You can ask the guy to geve you the file in Corel X4 or X3 - Uniconvertor can manage those formats but the best variant is to send you as AI even AI CS5 - Inkscape can open AI CS5 and everything is preserved well Radial and Linear gradients are just perfect. This is managed by the Uniconvertor also I think.

Actually CDR X5 support is an issue of nearest feature. Currently our team resolves sK1 release tasks. But the next iteration will be dedicated CDR support improving.
Also we plan providing export into CDR format because CorelDRAW has limited capacities in foreign format importing. For example there is no way correctly pass CMYK colors into CorelDRAW because it has an ugly Adobe format importers.
