I am using Mac OS 10.4.3 with Apple's X11 On an iMac G5 2GHz. I have this problem with all of the pre-release .dmg files (pre0 through pre3), though unfortunately I have been busy and unable to spend much time looking into it.
Did any of the previous versions work for you, e.g., 0.42?
(inkscape-bin:822): Gtk-WARNING **: Locale not supported by C library. Using the fallback 'C' locale.
(inkscape-bin:822): Gtk-WARNING **: Could not find the icon 'gnome-fs-home'.
These warnings are okay, and are not the cause.
Finally, actually trying to open any svg file gives me this:
(inkscape-bin:822): libgnomevfs-CRITICAL **: gnome_vfs_uri_is_local: assertion `uri != NULL' failed
This one is the problem, though I can't answer why it is happening.
Is there anything nonstandard about your setup, i.e, is the drive you are running Inkscape from an external or network drive?
It looks like libgnomevfs is unhappy with the file path for some reason.
Do you have fink installed? If so, do you have a version of gnome-vfs2 install, and what version?
[1] I'm fairly new to Mac OS so I don't even know if this is the correct method for running an app from the console. It runs the same when I double click the .app, so I assume it is.
Yes, this method should work. Perhaps easier is open /Applications/Inkscape.app You can also use open on a file or directory. You'll get the same behaviour as if you double-clicked the file in Finder.
