Not sure if this is relevant, but the Function Plotter uses a tabbed display, a "notebook" parameter, which could be causing a problem. I have yet to see a successful implementation of a "notebook" parameter
Just submitted a bug on this about 30 seconds ago, Bug # https://bugs.launchpad.net/inkscape/+bug/183030
