Our goal is, before all, a stable and usable release. Right now the codebase is VERY destabilized, probably more so than ever before, due to all the refactorings. As I wrote recently, even I sometimes have to go back to older stabler build to do some work. If we really focus on this, we probably can stabilize it enough for releasing within the year, but we have to work hard for that.
Yeah, the destabilized codebase was my main reason for thinking it didn't seem likely for this year. However, it sounds like there is some interest in getting a release out by the holidays. Given that not only refactoring was a goal, but that stability and bug fixing were cited as significant goals as well... if people are really interesting in this timeframe, we should lay out a timeline with dates for when various goals need to be met relatively soon.
Personally I'm less concerned about an end of the year release, but would like to see a release come out in time for the spring linux distro release cut off dates.
Bulia, just curious... is there any hope for the cairo switch during this release cycle (whether the goal is end of the year or spring)? Would anyone be able to assist you with it? Just wondering as it's one of the most beneficial things to refactor in the codebase it would seem.
