My impression is that the workflow in Inkscape is pretty much focused around the messages in the status bar or at least when you're kinda new to the software, perhaps this goes away with time when you know all the tools you need inside out. Another approach might be to actually give a popup when you try to save for the first time after copying/importing something that doesn't comply with current license.

I agree that we don't want to interrupt users, but if something is in non-compliance, what will make them think to look at the status bar? There's part of me that says a message in the status bar if all is compliant is sufficient (why disrupt everything if all is well), but I just don't feel we're really trying to notify if there is a conflict... maybe it flashes a couple times in the status bar in the event of a conflict? Anyone else have thoughts?
Cheers, Josh

So no one has commented on this one yet, is it too small/big for GSoC?
I plan to send in the formal application tomorrow wednesday 1st of May.

So as suggested by Ted in a previous mailing conversation I've now created a first draft of my proposal. Please comment on it.
I thought about pop-ups, but when I copy something between documents or imports something I don't want to be interrupted with an annoying pop-up therefore I've resorted to the statusbar. It's currently not showing anything specific when importing a SVG file nor pasting from the "clipboard".
