OK. Seeing the bounding boxes of a large selection never really bothered me, but I can see how it would be bad in some circumstances.
In order to demonstrate the idea, I've submitted a patch to the sf.net patch tracker which puts red bounding boxes around selected items. It's a diff against current CVS.
I'd be interested in any thoughts. I think the immediate to-do list is: 1. make it optional. 2. decide how to choose a colour for the item bounding boxes. 3. make it more efficient.
I'd be pleased to hear any comments or thoughts.
