I've noticed a problem with the stable PPA.

It seems to contain incorrectly built packages. The resulting .deb files from the build are approximately 12 KiB. They contain no binary data.

The build logs leave a clue to the problem:

chroot-autobuild/build/buildd/inkscape_0.48.5+31~ubuntu14.10.1_amd64.deb:

dpkg-deb: file `chroot-autobuild/build/buildd/inkscape_0.48.5+31~ubuntu14.0.1_amd64.deb'  contains ununderstood data member data.tar.xz , giving up
