Designers: what else than the information given by Marc do you need to get started actually implementing UX improvements...? Are you able to understand what you need to do?

The techs that are/will/should_probably_be used are, with examples,
- icon set to use
gtk prefs, CSS[1], and FDO icon sets[2](should probably work in dev ?)
