Excellent questions, and I fully agree that they should be prominent in the FAQ. So will you (or someone else who's qualified) please write them up? After they're ready, a news item can be added to the front page, to draw more visibility to them.

BTW, with our FAQ growing, I think it would benefit from a table of contents and some sectioning (Using Inkscape, Developing Inkscape, etc.)
