Speaking purely from the perspective of whether to wait for after 0.49 based on blocker bugs and available libraries... I really have to ask, why wait?
Our blocker list is still somewhat held hostage by the cairo/pixman situation. I believe two blockers have been fixed since the issue was last brought up. If there were less than 5 blockers, and stable releases of both cairo and pixman with what we need were out, I would be inclined to say let's not merge any more refactoring changes. Until either of those criteria are met, I'm personally pretty open as long as people don't outright break trunk. This is a seriously large gap between releases and if we can get as many changes in as possible, it seems more worthwhile (I really want it to feel that way to our users).
