Heh. How can we beat the inventors of Postscript, and the ones who brought DTP to the masses? It would be like having an Ambrosia-recipe competition with the Olympian gods. :)
Honestly, though; as long as Inkscape adheres to creating spec-compliant and clean SVG, I will continue to contribute and use it. If it were just another drawing program, I would have no interest in it at all.
In the simulation project in which I am working, I am being allowed to make design decisions. My plan is to draw the artwork for the simulation in Inkscape, then load it into Batik and manipulate it there. This will be very cool, I expect.
