Second, there should be an option for PDF output in PDF X/1-a format to satisfy the largest POD printer, Lightning Source Inc. (LSI). Currently my only path is to import all or part of a cover image into Scribus 1.5.0 (development version) and save it from there.
Since we use Cairo, this format should ideally be added as an option to Cairo's PDF backend. And if we want CMYK output in PDF, we need Cairo support for that as well. If it's done, it will benefit not only Inkscape but other cairo-using apps as well.
