we've also got to give the translators notice so they can review/merge translations.

IMHO everything language-related not in the patch tracker and not assigned to stable is already too far away from 0.44.1 to backport it without some unknown amount of work. That's at least how I interpret what cmarqu said to me on irq some time ago.
