I think we need some large changes in the node tool:
- make handles optionally selectable
- write manipulators for rectangles, spiral, star, etc and get rid of knotholder
- edit quadratic Beziers and arcs in the node tool

I have some ideas on how to do 1 and 2, but don't know how to allow editing elliptical arcs (i.e. what the control nodes should look like).
