I think the gradient handles should always use the same color, to easily differentiate them from path nodes, shape handles etc. I haven't yet decided which.
More importantly: The stops inbetween the end nodes should be configurable as well imho...
Eventually yes, that would make the gradient editor dialog mostly unnecessary.
Also: the snapping of the nodes is real cool, but i think they should snap, when you press shift and not the other way around.
With the grid, you press Shift to not snap. I'd like to keep it if only for consistency.
