[Inkscape-devel] Attaching XML attributes to SVG objects

I would like to attach some xml data attributes to some objects in an inkscape drawing (maybe id would be the related field). Any ideas what is the best way to do this? Would be really nice to click on object and have a table pop up with the xml data in it. Does that capability make any sense for Inkscape to have ? thks.
