I don't remember details (Mental, can you remind us?), but we did some experiements and found that this does not work.
Incidentally, non-px units are basically useless in SVG anyway for other reasons (for example: path data can _only_ be specified in px).
Really, the only thing non-px units are useful for is setting the root document size. As long as you specify everything else in px and use a viewBox, you know what the real-world dimensions of everything are.
