I agree that cycling between modes in a complex document isn't cool, but then I, for instance, don't use wireframe mode very often, and I'd love to be able to switch between Normal and No FIlters.

I've lately found myself wanting a keyboard shortcut for toggling filters as well, though I think it should be distinct from the one that toggles outline mode.
I seem to remember that there was the suggestion to toggle between normal mode and the most recently used "non-normal" mode. Or maybe even between the two most recently used modes. Wouldn't that suit most people's needs, since almost nobody seems to want to cycle between all available ones?
