Hi Danni,
Sounds like some useful changes for folks to try out. Post your changes as a patch (via diff -u) to the patch tracker. Bulia or one of the other developers will check out the changes and either apply it or give you some feedback on it.
One thing you may want to consider is adding options to the user preferences, in case some people find the double click behavior undesireable.
