I don't know how many times this was already discussed, but we need a single release which would *really* concentrate on bugfixing and quality/speed of rendering. Yep, I know that all day bugfixing and no new feature makes Jack a dull suicidal boy, but let's face it -- Inkscape is a tortoise crawling uphill to die at the top of Kilimanjaro. This really should stop. Just like all the craze with renderiing artefacts in gradients.
I think that 0.48 and it's point releases will take care of the focus on bugfixing (in the meantime)... seriously. If we plan to do as much focused refactoring during 0.49 as has been touched upon, we will need to maintain 0.48 actively for probably well over a year (yes, I'm not joking and am willing to commit to ensuring we have those releases happen). The reality is though, we will probably introduce a number of all new bugs with 0.49 that won't be discovered before it's released... and it is unavoidable.
Another thing that should have happened ages ago is switching to the usual coordinates system.
I think this would be perfect for 0.49.
