I agree. Different branches that are supposed to be worked on in parallel are certainly not a good idea. Please try to think up ways to merge gtkmm in stages, gradually, but please merge what you have anyway right after 0.41, otherwise it risks becoming too out of sync and the merge will be getting more and more difficult as time goes.
