Unfortunately, this is one of the biggest issues we have as a project currently. We have a hard enough time getting small patches in the tracker reviewed and committed. Branch merges rarely happen if the original author doesn't merge it themself. As of this point, given that you were fairly confident that it was just removing unused code and didn't break existing functionality, I would say to merge it if you feel comfortable. If you choose to do this, I'd be more than happy to try to test the few files I have with connectors after a merge takes place. If you don't feel comfortable, hopefully someone will step up to review and merge for you.
