But just a minor point that those do take it out of Latin1 aka ISO-8859-1. Could be why those were not used to begin with.
(Oh and just to keep others informed, the unicode name for "-" is "hyphen-minus", with "hyphen" living at U+2010, and "minus sign" living at U+2212)
