Actually no modifier is doing anything for me while dragging nodes.
And I realized that ctrl-canc does what I was looking for: why have canc (del) and ctrl-canc (ctrl-del) been swapped? I don't think the current behavior is intuitive. And also, I was used to the old one! :)
Another consideration: double clicking already adds a node (it's the same as ctrl-alt click) so, won't it be more intuitive to have ctrl double clicking delete an existing node rather than introducing new double-modifiers (one of which is a duplicate of something already implemented)?
