how about just a binary for windows so those of us without the compilation tool on that worthy platform can experiment with it...?

I completely agree with you. If we move in that direction, then we'll be ready
quite soon. 
 
I wouldn't necessarily advocate having a new about screen and trying to create a
huge media circus around such a release, I'm just keen to get this into the
hands of distros sooner rather than later.
