Two solutions: A) simply remove the s-shape! B) option in Inkscape preferences/tools/calligraphy
I'm not that fond of the S-shape and would be happy to remove it, but I'm afraid
that it may be a bit too lightweight, hard to notice, and inconsistent with other tools. Maybe as an artist, you could propose a cursor which would be convenient for professional artists and at the same time suffucientlt obvious and friendly for the newbies?
That would be good, regardless of what else is done.
You probably want to get an RFE entered for some general correction on this point

Options I could think of might include
- Change the default cursor for that tool
- Option to toggle to a 'simplified' cursor
- Ability to load custom cursor sets (similar to icon thems)
would it be possible to have a "dynamic" cursor with a shape that reflects the state of the tool? e.g. a line (or ellipse) of width and angle equal to those used by the calligraphy tool. I don't know if it is possible and if it will not be too resources hungry when used with a tablet (when angle and width change a lot) but it would be interesting to have IMHO. NB: and it might be replaced by the cross also, when width is too small and the cursor becomes inconspicuous.
