Question: do we want to similarly move focus to the document upon activation of any other widgets, e.g. buttons?
Great, thanks.
For refocusing things from the dialog, I think that's probably the right approach but I have a feeling it's something that people will need to play with and see how it feels. Maybe Tom Ingham and Alan can test it out and voice their thoughts on it?
- This change gives me one more reason to not make dialog shortcuts toggles. This discussion is now on the KeyboardShortcutsToDo wiki page; please read and comment. Overall, I think the arguments against toggles are now more persuasive.
Okay, sounds good.
- Several people suggested that making keyboard shortcuts user-modifiable and providing "profiles" imitating other vector editors. This is an attractive idea but there are some issues. I added a brief overview of this to the KeyboardShortcutsToDo.
I was talking to one of my co-workers about this who has worked with artists a lot in the past, and he made the exact same suggestion. This could take a bit of time to implement but would help not only people who really want Illustrator-like key bindings but also those who don't. Maybe it could be a good 0.37 or 0.38 project?
P.S. One of my messages seems to be lost - I don't see it in the list. Here it is again:
There's a new release of Sodipodi. Looks like there are many changes there, and while most of them are in the internals (which I'm no expert in) some are in UI and I'd like to port at least some of them to Inkscape. Anyone else feeling that may be a good idea? Maybe we can add to the roadmap "review and merge good changes from Sodipodi"?
I definitely think this would be a good idea. Perhaps the easiest approach would be to diff Sodipodi to hydra_october into a set of patches posted to our patch tracker. This would allow them to be reviewed each in turn. But yes definitely add it as a task for 0.37.
Thanks, Bryce
