Thanks a lot - could you please file a report in the bug tracker [1], provide a summary of the proposed changes there and attach the modified extension to the report? Preferably as diff against current trunk, too (to ease review) ...

[1] Bug tracker: https://bugs.launchpad.net/inkscape/+filebug IIRC there are a couple of open reports about the extension 'LaTeX' (formerly called 'LaTeX formula') - having your variant filed in the bug tracker would also help with comparing it to existing bug reports and feature requests, and with syncing other proposed changes (if desirable and feasible) with your rework: 1370693, 1318414, 1214577, 1210287, 1031658, 367446, 212395, 172079 (and maybe some other reports I missed in a quick search).
