Thanks for testing and confirming: it is related to one of the issues already reported for Inkscape built with GTK+/Quartz in Inkscape's bug tracker (bug #721448).
For now, I recommend you to use the precompiled application packages for the stable releases offered by the Inkscape project (X11-based), or the command-line version installed via MacPorts using the X11 variant of the dependencies (gtk2, cairo, pango).
I will follow your suggestion, my technical skills are to low to try (for now) compilation again.
