I don't know how many people saw this, but I thought it might be of general interest as it seems text is always an issue. Apparently there was a "text summit" in Glasgow as a part of aKademy. A report from the KDE folks:

Which sounds interesting, but I hope we'll never have to directly deal with "languages not yet in Unicode." And, I think that Pango will do most of it for us.
One of the links that I found interesting was to Fontima -- which is looking to define a font manager and widgets for the free desktop. Dealing with all the naming nastyness we've discussed before.
