No, I still think this completely breaks consistency with other tools, and the presented arguments that one kind of invisibility is different from some other kind do not convince me at all. A space is not visible, and in all other cases selection is visibility-based.
Unless of course it is a decorated space, then it (or more precisely its decoration) is visible and should be selectable.
