No, seriously, Canonical still imports and allows editing Inkscape translations. I've spoken to their i18n team recently again and they insist on doing so, while recognizing the need to work with upstream.
The solution as they see it is strong Q&A in local i18n Ubuntu teams. And that basically means having every language's Inkscape translator in a respective Ubuntu i18n team, because, as you might suspect, not every Ubuntu i18n team has people who know Inkscape and graphics design that well.
Apparently this nonsense will never stop.
