Hi,

Thanks a lot for taking the time to help!

I think it would be enough 1 hour for a small presentation-conversation to see if we all agree on how can we contribute. We could have more conversations, if needed, during the event. Maybe booking two hours to ensure that we have plenty time but setting a 1h meeting?

About the days, we are flexible with times so depends on who wants to participate in the meeting and their schedules. Inkscape dev team at LGM will be probably more busy so we could adapt better.
As a tentative, on Saturday there are some slots that can be useful:

What do you think?

Thanks again C!

I spoke to Lara, and there is one room that is not currently booked. We will have to get back to her quickly if we want to reserve it, though.

She has asked for days and times we want to use it for Inkscape discussions, so we need to make a decision fast. :)

Thanks!

If you think there is plenty time for a talk about this in the LGM and there are meeting rooms as C said, i think it will be enough to meet in London, and maybe in the future we can be part of the hackfest as an interface team.  :)

C, could we book a meeting room at LGM for this?

Hi, sorry for the late response, it's been absolutely mad trying to prep for the event. I will pass along the question to Laura, my contact at the University.

How long would we like to book for, and on which days?

Thanks. :)

Thanks!

Hi everyone!

Since this year is the LGM and the hackfest it could be a good moment to meet personally with some of you and talk/learn about the Inkscape interface design.

In a conversation with Ilmari, from the LibreOffice team, he pointed out that they currently have a design team with great results. A design team could (should!) also include developers, who like to hack on the UI and how functionality is presented to the user.

We are also part of the Open Source Design community with tons of designers with interest in contributing but have little idea on how to start contributing to projects like Inkscape. This Design team could help new contributors to be useful on the current development.

We really want to contribute to Inkscape with our skills :)

Do you think it would be good to create an official Design team inside Inkscape?

This is a great idea! Having a design team will help insure that Inkscape has a well thought out, consistent interface. The team could help answer questions from developers on how to present new functionality in Inkscape.

A few tasks for the team come to mind immediately:

1. Organize, summarize, prioritize, and make recommendations from all the existing suggestions for improvements to the Inkscape GUI. There are quite a few wiki pages dealing with user interface under the "User Interface Discussion" and "Developer Discussion" topics at:

2. The Text toolbar and Text dialogs could use some help. For example, there are too many entries in the Text toolbar.

3. The Tool sidebar could use some help. It is getting too many entries.

In a conversation with Jabier he suggested us to meet in the hackfest in Leeds, we are a group of 2-3 designers going to the LGM and, if you think it would be useful to meet in the hackfest, we could make it to Leeds on 13th (arriving 12th night).

From past experience, there is plenty of time at LGM for meetings. Having said that, you are most welcome to come to the Inkscape hackfest on the 13th. I'll need to know how many will be attending for a lunch/snack count (lunch is catered by the venue).

There is a talk schedule at LGM on Sunday about designing an Opentype Features UI that might be quite interesting.

Likewise, looking forward to meeting you and your colleagues,

Tav

Thanks, looking forward to meet at the LGM!

Xavi
