I very much like the change to set focus to Canvas. Now, there are a couple of other things that run along this line.
When I select a tool from the Toolbox, guess what I want to do next?
That's right, I want to do something on the Canvas. Let's call your raise event after a tool is selected from the Toolbox, that will fix the major lag point with changing tools using the mouse.
I'd say go ahead and implement this feature throughout, it's a really stunning change from Sodipodi - and I think it's going to start a strong habit of setting us apart from that other project :)
