Someone just needs to implement Alt+click on a layer in Layer dialog to hide all other layers. That's how it's done in Photoshop so it will be a familiar shortcut for most users.
Alt+click on a layer in InDesign selects all objects of the layer, IIRC. Which one is closer to Inkscape? :)
Alt+click on layer indeed selects all objects in Illustrator, but Alt+click on the visibility icon works as I described. We just need to implement both shortcuts (as well as probably others).
