Thanks for the answer. That's new behavior so it should be in the release notes (in v0.46 it worked for both the Pencil and Pen tools in regular mode). I'll add it later if no one else does.

Was this change intentional (and if so, why was it made)? If not, we should fix it instead of documenting it. :-)
