Rewrote most of it on Saturday inline with your comments, wrote the set/get bits for SPItem, purged the direct repr access, renamed the properties, Once I've switched it to relative to bbox and tested for a bit I'll send it over to you to take a look over.
Have some bigger things I'd like to play with, but I'll get the rotation centre stuff out the way before I see if I can get my head round the code involved for that :)
