Maybe a solution would be to move the options into the guide UI itself. (a change like this would necessitate user testing IMO) but...
Right now the guide ui has a unlabeled colour widget button for colour, if we can sneak in "Use Default Colour", "Custom Colour", "Set all guides to this colour" somewhere in there, then you reduce load on the properties and focus the options into a place where users using that feature will find them.
