Maybe it is not working? I dont see any 3d like object, and looks like the rectangle tool is activated. (so if I drag something it has the rectangle tool cursor and I draw a recangle, but as soon as I finish drawing the rectangle disappear, and only the two handles rest on the canvas.)
I highly doubt this is works...

Finally, yes. I just had a chat with Johan Engelen on IRC, and he pointed me in the right direction (many thanks again, Johan!!).
It seems that depending on the locale the coordinates of the box get converted in the wrong way when they are written to svg. More precisely, the decimal point is sometimes converted to a comma, which completely messes up the interpretation of the coordinates. I just committed a fix in SVN. Would you (or anyone else experiencing the same problem) mind giving it a try again to report if it works or if any problems remain?
