I could not help wondering about that, too. I'm not trying to decide for others, but honestly, I think it's way too much effort spent on fixing something which is not broken. There's so much urgent work on functionality and bugs... can't we just switch to tango (have we agreed on that?) and leave the icons stuff alone? It works just fine IMHO.
