Good day, Jon.
You guys are doing great work on Inkscape. I keep dipping my toes into it and I'm thinking of taking the plunge, that is, doing all my SVG-based graphics in Inkscape and putting all of my little Sodipodi "evangelism" (video tutorials, word-of-mouth advertising, donations) to work for Inkscape.
We would like this very much. I think that your contributions to Inkscape would be much more widely seen than generating this type of content for sodipodi.
Just curious: What has been the typical opinion of Inkscape's interface?
Do most users like it or dislike it?
Yes, most people love the new interface. There is only a hand full that don't.
Would you and the other Inkscape developers ever release a version with a tool box similar to Sodipodi's to see what the reaction might be? (I remember reading that the Inkscape interface wasn't permanent.)
If the tools collected in one place, with both collapsible segments and detachable segements (with special features accessible through the main menus along the top just like it is now), Inkscape would be just a delight to use.
Well, in the current state you can detach in a similar manner to SODI. We have talked about developing a detachable toolbar approach similar to the gimp in the future using GTKMM. Using this, what you seek might be within closer reach.
