Jon & Bryce,
congratulations on .43, however would it be correct that "Pressure and Tilt Sensitivity" can not currently be enabled for OS X?
this is documented in the Release Notes:
http://wiki.inkscape.org/cgi-bin/wiki.pl?ReleaseNotes043
'Pressure and tilt sensitivity do not currently work on MacOS X, due to a limitation of the MacOS X version of X11.'
given that the majority of graphics designers and perhaps even wacom tablet users prefer OS X, this remains a long term concern.
given that the majority of Inkscape developers are working on Linux is easy to understand on which platform are features implemented first.
The Gimp-like application: 'Seashore' is already available for OS X with "Pressure and Tilt Sensitivity" http://seashore.sourceforge.net/ it might be of note, that there is also an outstanding requested for a similar 'stripped' down version of inkscape for children.
i invite you to create a page on the wiki to describe how such a 'stripped down' version should look: http://wiki.inkscape.org/cgi-bin/wiki.pl
doing this will increase the chance a developer will pick up the idea.
i expect you want large incons, simplified or removed menu and reduced toolbar icons. i suspect this can be very easy to accomplish.
furthermore on win98:
dialogue: Pango-ERROR **: file....aborting.... another dialogue: Pango-WARNING(recursed) **: Couldn't load font "MS sans Serif 8" falling back to "Sans 8" aborting... and no application loads
again, this is documented in the Release Notes:
'Due to issues in GTK 2.8 beyond our control this version of Inkscape will not work on Windows 95/98/ME. Please do not send us crash reports from those platforms. We hope to be able to resume support for these platforms in the future, but no specific committments can be made at this point.'
see the archives of this mailing list for more details, as this issue was talked extensively.
