Ahh... because Inkscape SVG *is* standard SVG.
The difference between Inkscape SVG and "Plain SVG" is that for plain, the little bits of marker attributes and such that help in *editing* of the SVG are dropped out.
For *viewing*, Inkscape relies on standard SVG features to achieve everything.
