Hi list,
I would like to gather opinions about a particular usability point of inkscape and maybe suggest a change in the way transformations are applied. When selecting multiple objects and applying any transformation, they are treated as a whole. For example a rotation would rotation all objects around the center of their combination. I think it might be better to apply the same transformation to each object (and rotate each one around it's own center). Indeed, if you want to treat these objects as a whole you already have the possibility of grouping them (which is only one click), applying the transformation and then, possibly, degroup them if you want to further edit each object. On the other hand, let say you want to rotate at 45° twenty horizontal text items around their centers you will have to apply 20 times the same transformation. In addition, consider you want to rotate multiple selected object of 90°, there is at present an "inconsistency" in the transformations: objects are treated as a whole when rotating them with the transform palette but each object is rotated individually when using the "rotate by 90°" buttons of the GUI.
Is all that a feature? a bug? or just a matter of taste? ;-)
