I see that unordered containers are only available since Boost 1.36 - I initially thought they were available for a longer time. In that case, the previous solution (tell Apple users to fix their compiler) looks the best.
Alternatively, we can tell people to install some newer Boost if they want to compile Inkscape - it has no runtime dependencies.
