Yes, I think we have at least until Dec to tie the development loose ends.

Ok, great.  If worse comes to worst (which is doubtful really), the patch can technically go in as is, as long as the cleaned up / refactored version does as well soon thereafter :)  But with December to finish it off, I see no problems.
