I've had a problem with inkscape fairly frequently when I start it the first time after starting X (I use XFCE on gentoo). It doesn't happen every time, but frequently, and if I restart X, it usually goes away.
The problem is that I can't actually edit anything on the canvas, whether I open a new file or an existing one. All the buttons and dialogs behave correctly - except they don't do anything on the canvas.
Is this a known problem? It's persistent for me through several versions, and I'm using both .44 and .45-pre1.
Right now, however, I've just upgraded to XFCE4.4 and gtk2+-2.10.9 and I can't edit the canvas at all in either version, even after rebooting the whole computer. I'm not sure if I should recompile inkscape, but it doesn't seem right (I upgraded gtk from a previous 2.10 version, not sure exactly which).
I searched bugs and didn't see anything like this.
Thanks.
